Leviticus 15:19 NLT
”Whenever a woman has her menstrual period, she will be ceremonially unclean for seven days. Anyone who touches her during that time will be unclean until evening.“
If the Lord should mark iniquity…
The laws given to Moses fall under three categories: moral, ceremonial, and civil. The moral laws were given to the Israelites to guide their moral conduct, and they are referred to as the Ten Commandments, which the Lord spelled out in Exodus 20.
On the other hand, the ceremonial and civil laws were given to the Israelites to guide their religious practices and daily lives, respectively. The Lord spelled out these laws in Leviticus and Deuteronomy.
In one such ceremonial law about women during their menstrual period, the Lord stated that a woman is unclean for seven days. Also, anyone who touches her will remain unclean until evening. What if she’s a nursing mother? That means the baby would be unclean. If her children hug her during the period, they will be unclean.
It is important to note that this law was specific to the Israelites and was intended to maintain ritual purity. The uncleanliness referred to in this context is not a moral or ethical issue but rather a ceremonial one. The law aimed to prevent the spread of disease and ensure that the Israelites remained pure before God.
It is also crucial to understand that the coming of Jesus Christ brought a new covenant, and the ceremonial laws of the Old Testament no longer bind Christians. Christ’s sacrifice on the cross paid the debt for our sins, and we are free from the guilt that would have resulted from breaking the law.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for the death, resurrection, and ascension of Christ. He redeems me from the obligations of ceremonial laws. I pray that I will not take it for granted. Amen, in Jesus’s name.
