Leviticus 15:14 NLT
”On the eighth day he must get two turtledoves or two young pigeons and come before the Lord at the entrance of the Tabernacle and give his offerings to the priest.“
‭‭
On the eighth day
In the Jewish culture, a newborn boy is named on the eighth day after birth. This is significant because it marks the day the newborn receives his identity. In other words, the naming ceremony formally introduces the baby to the community and gives him a sense of belonging.

The referenced scripture, i.e., Leviticus 15:15, talks about a man who experiences bodily discharge. The message from the scripture is that this discharge made the man lose his identity. In those times, bodily discharge was considered unclean, and anyone who experienced it was considered impure. Therefore, the man who experienced it was considered an outcast and had to stay away from his community until healed.

However, the good news is that the man’s healing offered him a fresh breath of life, and he was able to return to his community. As part of the exercise, the man must offer thanksgiving to God because healing would not have been possible without God. Friends, no man can receive anything unless given by God; therefore, endeavour to show appreciation to the Only Wise God, the Giver of all.

In summary, this scripture teaches us the importance of being thankful to God for our healing and restoration. It also reminds us that we are not defined by our circumstances but rather by God’s grace, which offers us a fresh start and a new identity.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I am grateful for the new name accorded to me through Your Only Begotten Son. Through His sacrifice on the cross at Calvary, I have been granted a new name – one that signifies my redemption and freedom from condemnation. Your grace has transformed me, and Your love and mercy have humbled me. May I always remember the significance of this new name and live my life to honour You. Amen, in Jesus’s name.
