Leviticus 15:6 NLT
”If you sit where the man with the discharge has sat, you must wash your clothes and bathe yourself in water, and you will remain unclean until evening.“
Do you care?
In Exodus 15:26, God revealed Himself as Jehovah Rapha, which means “The Lord who heals.” From that moment, God made it clear that He is the Great Physician. In the previous verse, Leviticus 15:5-7, the Lord instructed the Israelites that touching the bed of a man who is ceremonially unclean makes the one who touches it ceremonially unclean as well. This may seem like a harsh rule, but it was necessary to establish a clear boundary for the Israelites to follow to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, which were prevalent during that time.
During that era, medical sciences were not as advanced as today. Therefore, the Israelites had to rely on divine instruction to stay healthy. As the Great Physician, the Lord warned them about what they must avoid, such as touching the bed of a person who is ceremonially unclean or coming into contact with any other pollutants. These rules were not designed to punish the Israelites but to protect them from diseases and promote good health.
In the dispensation of grace that Jesus purchased with His blood, we cannot be careless about our lives. The Lord wanted the people of Israel to be careful not to spread viruses and bacteria through a lackadaisical attitude, and the same is expected of you and me. We should also be mindful of our health and the health of others by following guidelines from our healthcare providers and health authorities. By doing so, we show love for our neighbours and ourselves.
Friends, let us be vigilant and care for ourselves and our communities. Would you happen to care? If yes, watch and pray.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I ask that You help me so I will not, through carelessness, put myself in harm’s way. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
