Leviticus 14:30 NLT
”Then the priest will offer the two turtledoves or the two young pigeons, whichever the person can afford.“
The same level of commitment
In today’s scripture reference, we find a repetition of God’s instructions to the Israelites in Leviticus 14:21-22. God repeated this instruction to emphasize an important point: His mercy is not limited to the wealthy alone but is available to all, regardless of financial status. This message is essential in a world where money often determines access to resources, services, and opportunities.
Another significant point often overlooked in this scripture is how God instructed the priest to oversee the offering of two turtledoves or two young pigeons presented by those with limited means for the purification exercise. This detail is of great importance as it shows that God values the offerings of the poor just as much as those of the rich. The priest was responsible for overseeing the offering of the turtledoves or pigeons, just as he was with the offering of a lamb. This shows that God did not want the priest to show any discrimination based on the economic status of the person bringing the offering.
God’s instructions to the priest were clear and straightforward. The priest was to show the same level of commitment to the purification exercise, regardless of whether it was brought by someone rich or poor. God did not want the priest to cherry-pick which purification exercise to be involved in based on the economic status of the person bringing the offering. Instead, He wanted the priest to attend to everyone with the same level of commitment to the exercise.
God’s message in this scripture is clear, reminding us that we should not discriminate based on financial status. Instead, we should treat everyone equally and with the same commitment and respect.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me never to discriminate in the discharge of my duties. I will not pander to the right or left of the spectrum. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
