Leviticus 13:56 NLT
”But if the priest examines it and finds that the contaminated area has faded after being washed, he must cut the spot from the clothing, the fabric, or the leather.“
The contamination can fade
In the context of today’s referenced scripture, water is used as a metaphor for the transformative power of God’s Word. We must bear in mind that when we listen to God’s Word, we open the window for something of immeasurable value to happen in our lives.
However, it is important to note that the transformative power of God’s Word can only work in a willing heart. In the parable of the sower, Jesus used the analogy of different types of soil to illustrate how the condition of our hearts can affect the outcome of the sown seed. The same is true for the transformative power of God’s Word – it can only take root and bear fruit in a heart that is open and willing to receive it.
As we yield to God’s Word, it washes away our sins and makes them disappear. This cleansing process is not just limited to our actions but also transforms our thoughts and attitudes.
Just as a fabric infested with mildew must be severely cleaned to remove all traces of the contamination, anyone who relies on God’s Word and has been forgiven must sever any relationship with anything that contaminates. This means we must be vigilant and intentional about what we allow into our hearts and minds and be willing to make the necessary changes to live a pleasing life to God.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I ask for the strength to sever connection with everything that contaminates, i.e., pride of life, lust of the flesh, and In Jesus’s name, Amen.
