Leviticus 13:27 NLT
”On the seventh day the priest must examine the person again. If the affected area has spread on the skin, the priest must pronounce that person ceremonially unclean, for it is clearly a serious skin disease.“
On the seventh day
In the Hebrew language, the word for completeness contains the same consonants as the number seven, making it a symbol of wholeness and fullness. When the Lord instructed the priests to re-examine individuals under quarantine, He stated that it must be on day seven of the quarantine. Therefore, the seven-day period was not a coincidence.
Another lesson learned is that day seven was not the same for everyone. While for some, it might fall on a weekday, for others, it could be on the Sabbath day. Regardless of the day, the Lord expected the priest to attend to the needs of the quarantined person, even on the Sabbath. This was a clear example of grace in action in the Old Testament.
Remember that Jesus Christ asked the religious teachers if they wouldn’t rescue their trapped animals on the Sabbath. He used the question they refused to answer to point out that compassion and mercy should always come first, even if it means breaking the rules. God is full of compassion. Are you compassionate?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, You are gracious, and please help me not to misuse Your grace over my life. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
