Leviticus 13:26 NLT
”But if the priest finds no white hair on the affected area and the problem appears to be no more than skin-deep and has faded, the priest must quarantine the infected person for seven days.“
‭‭
No white hair
During my undergraduate days, I experienced a bout of typhoid fever. Our family physician prescribed a particular medication for me, which I took as directed. However, when the prescription was finished, I still had symptoms of the illness. At this point, I decided to take matters into my own hands and went to the pharmacy to buy more medication. I believed I knew what was best for my health and that there was no need to involve the physician again.

In ancient Israel, the Lord instructed that only the priest could diagnose symptoms and decide the appropriate course of action. It was not up to the affected person to determine how to handle their situation based on their own observations. This was a way of ensuring that the correct diagnosis was made and proper treatment was given.

Interestingly, the phenomenon of spiritual self-medication is quite common in Christianity. Many individuals and groups embark on programs and activities without seeking the guidance and knowledge of the Priest. This is often because they assume that if a particular approach works for one person, it will work for everyone. However, this can lead to misguided or ineffective practices that may not address the unique needs of each individual. But if we seek the counsel of the High Priest, i.e., Christ Jesus, who is the Wonderful Counsellor, we can never go wrong (Isaiah 9:6-7).

Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me avoid self-medicating spiritually. I come to You for revelation about my life. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
