Leviticus 13:10 NLT
”If the priest finds a white swelling on the skin, and some hair on the spot has turned white, and there is an open sore in the affected area,“
‭‭
Thorough assessment
In medical science, it is highly unusual for a practitioner without adequate knowledge of a health issue to offer professional advice. Similarly, in ancient Israel, today’s referenced Scripture reveals that only a priest had the right to make a pronouncement concerning a person with a rash. However, the priest could only make such a pronouncement with careful examination. In fact, the priest had a well-defined protocol for assessing and diagnosing a rash.

The priest would scrutinize the person’s skin and look for three specific things. The first was a white swelling on the skin, which could indicate an infection or inflammation. The second was hair on the spot that had turned white, which could be a sign of dead skin cells or an autoimmune disorder. The third was an open sore in the affected area, which could be a bacterial or viral infection symptom.

This ancient practice teaches us an essential lesson about thoroughness in our assessments. Just as the priest carefully examined each person to ensure they were not declared unclean without cause, we must also assess situations thoroughly before making pronouncements. We must never jump to conclusions because of the ability to make or mar people’s lives. As Paul, Silas, and Timothy advised the believers in Thessalonica, we must always test everything and hold on to what is good. (1 Thessalonians 5:21).

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I ask for Your help to thoroughly assess any situation so I will not make wrong decisions. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
