Leviticus 13:9 NLT
“Anyone who develops a serious skin disease must go to the priest for an examination.”
‭‭
Go to the priest
In the Old Testament, only priests were privileged to examine anyone with serious skin diseases. They were responsible for determining whether someone was “clean” or “unclean” and had the power to quarantine individuals if necessary. However, they didn’t have to worry about contracting the disease themselves. Perhaps it was because they followed strict religious rituals and maintained high personal hygiene.

During that period, no Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) was available, but the priests carried out their duty without questioning God. They had faith in God, who tasked them to protect them. Today, PPE is available, and using it does not mean that one does not have faith in God or that one’s faith has been decimated. They help protect healthcare providers and prevent the spread of diseases.

Back to the referenced scripture, there are two important lessons we can glean from it. First, not everyone in the House of Israel was assigned the duty, and it’s crucial to recognize our limitations. For example, Moses was not a priest, and God did not expect him to examine anyone with a serious skin disease. No scripture record indicates he overstepped his bounds. Therefore, if we are not assigned a duty, it’s best not to meddle in it.

The second lesson is that when the Lord sends anyone on an errand, He does not leave them vulnerable. As the Psalmist says, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me.” This means we can trust God’s protection and guidance, even in the most challenging situations.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, as I carry out all my assignments, please protect me. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
