“For I, the Lord, am the one who brought you up from the land of Egypt, that I might be your God. Therefore, you must be holy because I am holy.”
For, I, the Lord
As humans, we all tend to forget things, no matter how important they are. This is evident from the fact that words like “remind” or “remember” have become common in our vocabulary. This forgetfulness is why smart device manufacturers have included features to help us remember important events and tasks.
However, sometimes we forget who is responsible for our accomplishments and successes. In today’s referenced Scripture, God reminded the people of Israel that orchestrated their deliverance from bondage. He did this because He wanted to be their God, but He also wanted them to choose Him freely. He didn’t want to force them to follow Him.
Choosing God involves choosing the way of righteousness. It’s not enough to claim that we belong to God without living a life that reflects His values. God wants us to be holy because it’s only through holiness that we can truly see Him.
As His children, all God requires from us is our hearts. He doesn’t want us to give lip service to our faith but to commit ourselves to His ways. When we do this, we’ll experience His love and grace.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I pray that I will never forget how You brought me from the miry clay and how You set my feet upon a rock and established my goings. In Jesus’s name, I pray, Amen.
