Leviticus 11:43 NLT
“Do not defile yourselves by touching them. You must not make yourselves ceremonially unclean because of them.”
Do not defile yourself
As believers, it’s important to recognize that maintaining our relationship with God is ultimately up to us. Hence, if we notice any distance between us and God, it’s not because God has moved but because we have. Remember that the scripture says, “Come closer to God, and He will come closer to you.” Therefore, we must take responsibility for our actions and work towards strengthening our relationship with God.
In today’s scripture, the Lord warned the people of Israel to avoid defiling themselves by touching small animals that scurry along the ground. This serves as a reminder that our choices significantly impact our lives and relationship with God.
It’s important to note that we can draw closer to God or drift away from Him. We must exercise caution and make wise choices to avoid actions that may cause us to drift away from God. Through the Holy Spirit, we can resist any temptation and stay pure, just as Joseph resisted the advances of Potiphar’s wife and Daniel and his three friends refused to eat King Nebuchadnezzar’s meat.
Therefore, we must be intentional in our efforts to stay pure and avoid anything that may defile us. We must strive to maintain a close relationship with God, resist temptation, and stay true to our faith. We have what it takes to resist anything that resembles small animals that scurry along the ground, and we must draw strength from the Holy Spirit to do so.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You today, recognizing my weakness and vulnerability to temptation. I ask for Your divine guidance and strength to help me resist the things that go against Your will and purpose for my life. Please grant me the wisdom to discern between right and wrong and the courage to choose what is right. Help me to remain faithful to Your word and to live a life that brings glory and honour to Your name. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
