“Of the animals that walk on all fours, those that have paws are unclean. If you touch the carcass of such an animal, you will be defiled until evening.”
Lord, I need You
Having instructions is essential for leading a satisfying life. Imagine a life without any regulations or guidance – it would lead to many catastrophic errors and wouldn’t be enjoyable. It’s crucial to note that one must obtain instructions from the manufacturer to use a product efficiently. Since God created everything, the knowledge of using anything cannot be known through trial and error but only through Him.
In today’s scripture, God instructed the people of Israel not to consider eating animals with paws or touching their carcasses. Like other dietary instructions, this instruction was a testament to His love for the people of Israel. Through Jesus, God demonstrated His love and provided guidance to humankind so that we could know Him. It’s up to us to accept His instructions for our lives and adhere to them without adding or subtracting from them.
It’s important to note that the instructions did not suggest that these creatures were not good as pets, meaning they could be owned as pets. Therefore, it would be wrong to ban them, knowing that the instruction only pertains to consuming their meat or touching their carcasses. It’s essential not to stretch the scripture to fit our narrative.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You humbly with a request. I recognize that in my strength, I cannot love the things You love or detest the unclean. I need Your divine help to grow in love for You so I can align my affections with Yours. Please grant me the grace to grow in my love for You each day, that I may walk in Your ways and honour You with every breath I take. I pray all this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
