Leviticus 11:12 NLT
“Any marine animal that does not have both fins and scales is detestable to you.”
‭‭
A permanent injunction
In Revelation 4 verse 11, the twenty-four elders declare that everything that God created was done so with a specific purpose in mind and that every creation pleased Him. This includes marine creatures that do not have scales or fins. While these creatures were not meant to be consumed by the Israelites, God created them for reasons beyond our understanding.

However, the referenced Scripture makes it clear that such marine animals without scales and fins are not only unsuitable for consumption by the people God redeemed from slavery in Egypt but they are also considered detestable by them. This disapproval is not temporary but rather a permanent condition. The Israelites were not to eat these creatures, nor were they to touch their carcasses, as doing so would render them ceremonially unclean.

It is worth noting that God’s laws were not arbitrary but were meant to serve a purpose. The Israelites were given strict dietary laws as a way of setting them apart from the neighbouring nations and teaching them about holiness and obedience to God. The instruction was not to constrict their life but to make it better. Similarly, any divine instruction given to you and me in the dispensation of grace isn’t to constrict our lives but to make them better.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, please guide me to live a life that fulfills Your purpose. Through Jesus, I pray. Amen.
