Leviticus 10:5 NLT
“So they came forward and picked them up by their garments and carried them out of the camp, just as Moses had commanded.”
They came forward
People commonly tend to follow or disregard instructions based on their familiarity with the messenger delivering them. However, the accounts of Mishael and Elzaphan in the scriptures suggest that such familiarity should not necessarily breed contempt or disobedience. When their uncle Moses requested their assistance, they readily came forward, demonstrating respect and obedience towards him. This is a powerful reminder that our relationships should not be overly influenced by familiarity and that we should treat everyone fairly and respectfully, regardless of how well we know or do not know them.
Furthermore, this scripture highlights that God values inner purity far more than outward appearances. Mishael and Elzaphan’s actions in picking up the bodies of Nadab and Abihu by their garments reveal that they had been wearing them before entering the Lord’s presence. However, while beautiful garments may be impressive to us, they do not hold any value in God’s eyes if worn by someone with a disobedient heart. Ultimately, no one can deceive God with their external appearance, as He sees through everything and values the purity of our hearts above all else.
Prayer
Dear God, please help me pursue inner purity in all circumstances. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
