Leviticus 10:2 NLT
“So fire blazed forth from the Lord’s presence and burned them up, and they died there before the Lord.”
‭‭
The Lord’s presence
In Leviticus, chapter 9, verse 24, the scripture describes a powerful and awe-inspiring moment when the fire blazed from the Lord’s presence in response to Aaron’s actions. The people present during this event were filled with joy and worshipped the Lord by prostrating themselves on the ground. It was a rare instance where people rejoiced at the sight of fire, as it was a clear sign of the Lord’s approval.

However, another incident of fire blazing forth from the Lord is mentioned in today’s scripture reference. However, the Israel community was not present during the incident. Yet the outcome vibrated throughout the camp. Unlike the previous instance, no joy or celebration was associated with this event. The reason was that Nadab and Abihu lost their lives, and this was not because the Lord is unkind; in fact, the scripture states that there is no wickedness in Him. Instead, Aaron’s sons, Nadab and Abihu, had yet to follow the Lord’s instructions. God gave them much by drafting them into His service, but they grossly fell short of His expectations.

Friends, it is important to remember that our actions in the presence of the Lord can determine what we receive. As we see in Leviticus 8, the Lord’s fire consumed his offerings on the altar of burnt offerings. However, his sons were destroyed by the Lord’s fire for their disobedience. Therefore, it is crucial to value obedience and demonstrate it in all aspects of our lives.

Prayer
Dear God, I pray that I will not engage in any endeavour resulting in divine condemnation. I cannot do it by my strength; therefore, help me, Holy Spirit. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
