Leviticus 10:1 NLT
“Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu put coals of fire in their incense burners and sprinkled incense over them. In this way, they disobeyed the Lord by burning before him the wrong kind of fire, different than he had commanded.”
‭‭
What kind of fire do you have?
In the educational setting, teachers provide students with materials to aid their comprehension and application of the information during assessments. However, it is critical to note that if students deviate from the provided materials and follow their own path, they are solely responsible for the result. This concept is similar to God’s teachings, whereby He always gives us the necessary information to succeed in any task. As such, we must never ignore His instructions if we aim to please Him, as the consequences of disobedience can be severe.

In today’s scripture, we witness a significant moment in Aaron’s ministry. Specifically, the text highlights how Aaron’s sons, Nadab and Abihu, chose to disobey the Lord. The word “disobey” applies when the recipient ignores the provided instructions, which is precisely what happened in this instance with Aaron’s sons. Nadab and Abihu had grown too comfortable with the worship procedure and thought that anything goes in the Lord’s presence. Unfortunately, the coals of fire they used for their incense burners were not from the right source. According to the scripture, the only permitted place for coals of fire for incense burners is the altar of burnt offerings (Leviticus 16:12).

It is essential to note that obedience to God’s teachings is critical. Disobeying Him can have severe consequences. Remember that without the altar of burnt offerings, the altar of incense cannot be used. Only through Jesus does the altar of burnt offering and the altar of incense exist. Therefore, it is vital to follow Him because He is the Way to the Father. By doing so, we can stay faithful to God’s teachings and avoid the consequences of disobedience.

Prayer
Dear God, I pray that I will never possess fire that does not come from You. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
