Leviticus 8:28 NLT
“Moses then took all the offerings back from them and burned them on the altar on top of the burnt offering. This was the ordination offering. It was a pleasing aroma, a special gift presented to the Lord.”
‭‭
Gladly we will give to thee
In the hymn, O Lord of Heaven and Earth and Sea, the author, Christopher Wordsworth, stated in stanza three that:
Whatever, Lord, we lend to there,
Repaid a thousand-fold shall be
Then gladly will we give to thee
Who givest all
From the third line, one can draw a correlation between the passage and the scripture referenced earlier in the text. The scripture in question recounts how Moses retrieved all the offerings from Aaron and his sons, which is significant in that it was done without any resistance from Aaron and his sons. They willingly relinquished the offerings to Moses, who acted on God’s behalf. Upon receiving them, Moses expeditiously burned all the offerings on the altar of burnt offerings. This act of burning the offerings was symbolic for not only Moses and Aaron’s family but also the entire community of Israel, as it signified their complete commitment and surrender to God. It is imperative to recognize that without total commitment or surrender to God, no one can truly serve Him. Therefore, it is necessary to surrender everything to God and allow Him to be the All in All.
