Leviticus 8:23 NLT
“and Moses slaughtered it. Then Moses took some of its blood and applied it to the lobe of Aaron’s right ear, the thumb of his right hand, and the big toe of his right foot.”
Three areas
The instructions given by the Lord to Moses held great significance. In addition to slaughtering the ram for ordination, Moses applied some of its blood to three specific areas on Aaron’s body: the right earlobe, the thumb of his right hand, and the big toe of his right foot. It is noted that all these areas were on the right side, which is considered a place of honour and status. The three areas, namely the right earlobe, the thumb of his right hand, and the big toe of his right foot, each had a distinct meaning. The blood applied to the earlobe consecrated Aaron to hear the voice of God. It symbolized his willingness and ability to listen to the divine word and guidance. The blood applied to the thumb consecrated him to do the work of God. It symbolized his readiness and ability to carry out the divine mission. Lastly, the blood applied to the big toe consecrated him to walk only in the path of God. It symbolized his commitment and dedication to follow the divine way. This exercise serves as a powerful reminder that the blood of Jesus sanctifies us. As such, we must strive to listen to His voice, engage in His mission, and walk on the narrow path that leads to eternal life.
Prayer
Dear God, I am grateful for the blessings of Jesus’s blood. Please guide me to always listen to Your voice, do Your work, and follow Your path throughout my life. I pray this in Jesus’s name. Amen.
