Leviticus 8:22 NLT
“Then Moses presented the other ram, which was the ram of ordination. Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the ram’s head,”
The ram of ordination
In Leviticus 8, Moses diligently prepared Aaron and his sons for their holy duties and consecrated the Tabernacle and all items inside and outside it for service to the Lord. These were no easy tasks, as each step required careful attention to detail, and physical exertion on Moses was inevitable. Yet there is no mention in the scripture of whether or not Moses took breaks to eat or fast during this process because he persevered. Moses did not view his duties as burdensome but as opportunities to joyfully serve the Lord. This is an important reminder that being a cheerful giver applies not only to our financial resources but also to our time and talents. We must be willing to offer these to God with a joyful heart.
In addition to his other tasks, Moses also presented a ram of ordination which differed from the previous one used for consecrating Aaron and his sons and the altar of burnt offerings. This distinction suggests that procedures for consecration and ordination were different in the Old Testament. However, in the New Testament, the blood of Jesus performs both functions and is once and for all for anyone and everyone.
Therefore, we must approach our duties with a joyful heart and be willing to give our time and talents to serve God. Additionally, we must recognize the significance of Jesus’ sacrifice and the new covenant it created.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I am grateful for sending Jesus to die on the cross for me. His blood has given me assurances that are beyond human understanding. I pray this in Jesus’s name, amen.
