Leviticus 8:17 NLT
“He took the rest of the bull, including its hide, meat, and dung, and burned it on a fire outside the camp, just as the Lord had commanded him.”
Just as the Lord had commanded
It’s interesting to note that respect and humility are two separate things. While a humble person is almost always respectful, it’s not necessarily true that someone who shows respect is also humble. Moses, for instance, was known for his humility, which was recognized and praised by God. Throughout the scriptures, there are numerous instances of Moses demonstrating this admirable trait. Today’s passage is just one example.
So what exactly does it mean to be humble? It’s actually a rather simple attribute. According to the scripture, Moses followed every commandment of the Lord without adding or taking away anything from them. In other words, he relied entirely on God to carry out his tasks. This is what truly defines a humble person. It’s not just about how nicely you greet others or how much you put yourself down. True humility is demonstrated by how closely you follow God’s instructions.
Interestingly, the scripture does not mention how far the location was from the Tabernacle, where Moses performed the task. Despite the possibility of encountering wild animals in the area, he brought everything he needed to complete the task. This is another example of Moses’ humility and trust in the Lord.
In light of all this, we must ask ourselves, do we consider ourselves to be humble? It’s a question that we should all take to heart and reflect upon.
Prayer
Dear God, I ask for Your guidance in living a humble life aligned with Your teachings. Please help me always to follow Your instructions. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
