Leviticus 7:36 NLT
“The Lord commanded the Israelites to give it to them on the day he anointed them. This is a permanent law for generations to come.”
Not on a second thought
As believers, it is crucial to understand that God does not act randomly. Instead, He has a clear purpose behind His actions, which He communicates straightforwardly. This is evident from His command that the provision set aside for the priests should be given promptly once they are consecrated. It is worth noting that these allocations are not meant as payment for the services provided by Aaron and his descendants and should not be used by anyone to hold God to ransom. In this sense, the provision for priests is not just a matter of financial support but also a call to spiritual accountability. The priests are expected to live up to a high standard of holiness and devotion, and the provision serves as a means for them to fulfill their calling without distraction or worry.
It is significant to note that all Israelites, regardless of their social standing, are expected to contribute to the support of the priests. This reflects the idea that the priesthood is not just a privilege reserved for a select few but a responsibility the entire community shares. Both the rich and the poor are required to offer the designated portion of the peace offering to the priest. This means everyone has a stake in supporting the priest and meeting their needs.
As followers of Christ, we are called to imitate this attitude of generosity and support for those who work in the vineyard. With His command, God made sure that Aaron and his descendants never had to beg for food. Therefore, we can be confident that God continues to take care of His messengers and will reward those who faithfully serve Him. Let us, therefore, make every effort to support those who have been called to serve in His name.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, with deep gratitude, I offer my thanks for the provision You granted to Aaron and his descendants, sparing them from having to beg for sustenance. As Your faithful servant, I humbly implore You to continue to bless all those who tirelessly toil in Your vineyard with an abundance of resources and provisions so that no one shall ever have to suffer hunger or lack. I offer this prayer in the all-powerful and all-merciful name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
