Leviticus 7:31 NLT
“Then the priest will burn the fat on the altar, but the breast will belong to Aaron and his descendants.”
God first
In today’s scripture, we can discern two distinct parts. The first part centers on the priest’s obligation to burn the animal fat on the altar. It emphasizes the importance of the priest’s role in performing this task as an act of service to God. The second part of the scripture focuses on the rights of Aaron and his descendants. It’s noteworthy that the priest’s responsibility to burn the animal fat comes before the administration of rights. This order of importance highlights the significance of fulfilling one’s obligations to God before claiming any rights.
What’s particularly interesting is that while Aaron and his descendants were blessed, this blessing was not based on their performance of any specific task. This implies that God’s blessings are not earned by human effort alone. Instead, they are God-given gifts bestowed upon us according to His will and grace.
Moreover, the scripture reveals something profound about Moses, the leader chosen by God to deliver His instructions. Moses possessed a selfless and contented heart. He was not jealous of Aaron and his descendants’ blessings, nor did he show favouritism towards his own side. His humility and impartiality are admirable qualities we should strive to emulate as we serve God.
In conclusion, as we serve God, let us fulfill our obligations with sincerity and humility, knowing that God will never forget our labour of love. Let us also cultivate a selfless heart and avoid envy or favouritism towards others. By doing so, we will honour God and bless others with the love and grace that God has bestowed upon us.
Prayer
Dear God, please guide me to prioritize my commitment to You above everything else and grant me the strength never to feel envious of Your blessings in other people’s lives. I humbly ask for this in Jesus’s name. Amen.
