Leviticus 5:16 NLT
“You must make restitution for the sacred property you have harmed by paying for the loss, plus an additional 20 percent. When you give the payment to the priest, he will purify you with the ram sacrificed as a guilt offering, making you right with the Lord, and you will be forgiven.”
Payment required
Under the law, propitiation for sins required the offender’s effort, money, and property. However, all of these were null and void without the priest’s involvement, as the offender remained at variance with God. Unlike the previous sin, defilement of the Lord’s sacred property required not just providing the required animal for appeasement but also a payment to indemnify for the loss plus 20 percent. Did you know that the law only applied to the Israelites? Yes, it was only for them. There is no authorized replica of the sacred property anywhere. In addition, the actual payment and the 20 percent restitution were to be paid in equal value with silver, as measured by the weight of the sanctuary shekel. If we want to reenact the law, we must be ready to pay in Shekel. Given that the exchange rate is not the same, that means that some people would be burdened, and it would be relatively easy for others to undertake it. In Jesus, everything is easy. Remember what Jesus said in Matthew 11:28. He said my burden is light, and I will give you rest.

Thank You, mercy God, for giving us Jesus Christ and not having to go through tedious restitutions. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
