Leviticus 5:15 NLT
“If one of you commits a sin by unintentionally defiling the Lord’s sacred property, you must bring a guilt offering to the Lord. The offering must be your own ram with no defects, or you may buy one of equal value with silver, as measured by the weight of the sanctuary shekel.”

Not a norm
In everyday conversation, the use of “when” in place of “if” means that a situation cannot be avoided. The fact that today’s referenced scripture begins with “if” indicates something profound. The reason is that “if” connotes happenstance. So, what was it that was not expected? God didn’t expect the Israelites not to know His ways or dos and don’ts not to mention violating any. Nonetheless, God still provided a way of escape for anyone that missed the mark. It is worth noting that the way out was not cheap. It required the use of a ram which must not only be without defect but must either come from the offender’s flock or be purchased by the offender. So imagine a situation where an Israelite committed the sin but had no ram with no defect and could not afford to buy one. Such a person would carry the guilt everywhere. However, a person that has the material or could afford it would effect the ritual as soon as possible and guiltless in no time. One thing is clear. The system was not fair to everyone. However, there is a system that is fair and does not cost you and me any dime. Jesus Christ made the new system possible. Believe Him, and you are guilt-free.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus to die for my sin. Please help me never to be complacent with the finished work of salvation. ln Jesus’s name. Amen.
