Leviticus 5:11 NLT
“If you cannot afford to bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons, you may bring two quarts of choice flour for your sin offering. Since it is an offering for sin, you must not moisten it with olive oil or put any frankincense on it.”
If you cannot afford
God knows our frames, and He is always ready to work with us. He does not meet us in the middle but wherever we are. He does not only speak about equity but also demonstrates it. Today’s referenced scripture is one example of such a display. Under the law, God lowered the bar significantly. God made plans for even people who could barely make ends meet. If bringing turtledove or pigeon was concerning or difficult for anyone, God asserted that a choice of flour would do – meaning He didn’t want to burden anyone with the offering. Lowering the requirements indicated that God wanted everyone to have the right relationship with Him. Another message is that God gave each sinner the benefit of the doubt to determine whether or not they could provide costly materials. It would, therefore, be wrong for any sinner trying to mend their relationship with God to lie about what they are capable of giving for the atonement.
Prayer
Thank You, merciful and gracious Father, for Your love and compassion over humanity. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
