Leviticus 5:6 NLT
“Then you must bring to the Lord as the penalty for your sin a female from the flock, either a sheep or a goat. This is a sin offering with which the priest will purify you from your sin, making you right with the Lord.”
Making us right with God
An adage says a word is enough for the wise. Unlike the injunction in Leviticus 4, a careful examination of today’s referenced scripture reveals that God did not give any order regarding whether or not the animal must be with or without defective or give the animal’s age. However, the fact that the animal was for the Lord was enough information for anyone to do the right thing. Even under the law, God gave Israelites a choice to choose their action. However, saying “sorry” was not enough for the remission of sins. The offender had to approach the priest with a sheep or a female goat, without which the guilt could not be erased. The priest had the privilege to make anyone right with God but imagine the priest was found wanting; then the process would not proceed. However, we have an Advocate who is the High Priest and always right with God, so we don’t have to worry whether our plea for mercy purchased with His blood would receive the required divine attention.
Prayer
Dear Father, thank You for giving us Jesus Christ, who makes us right with You, so we won’t need to perform any sacrifice for our sins. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
