Leviticus 4:18 NLT
“He will then put some of the blood on the horns of the altar for fragrant incense that stands in the Lord’s presence inside the Tabernacle. He will pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar for burnt offerings at the entrance of the Tabernacle.”
Atonement isn’t cheap
It doesn’t take time to destroy anything, be it a structure or relationships; however, it takes time to build or rebuild! Sin can be committed in an instant, but fixing it may take time or even a lifetime! Aside from sprinkling the blood of a young bull with no defect before the Lord in front of the inner altar, the priest still needed to put the blood on the horns of the altars of fragrant incense, and whatever was left was drained at the base of the altar of burnt offerings. Imagine that this happens every now and then; the high priest would have been worn-out from exhaustion due to the process. Thus, if atoning for sin ignorantly committed was this time-consuming and stressful, then how long would it take for willful sin? Perhaps, God used these processes to tell us that reconciliation takes time and therefore wants us to do everything through Christ.
Prayer
Eternal Rock of Ages, thank You for Your love for humanity. Please help me not to take the finished work of salvation purchased by the blood of Jesus Christ for granted, in Jesus’s name, amen.
