Leviticus 1:16 NLT
“The priest must also remove the crop and the feathers and throw them in the ashes on the east side of the altar.”
Not everything was accepted
God created different species of birds. Among them are peacocks which are ideals of beauty, and eagles, which can soar to unimaginable heights. Yet when God chose the birds for a burnt offering, turtledoves and pigeons were selected. Why did God choose turtledoves and pigeons? Theologians believe it was likely because of their gentle nature and the cleanliness of these birds. Despite these attributes, some parts of the birds were unworthy. If not, God wouldn’t have instructed that the priest throw the birds’ crops and feathers into the ashes on the east side of the altar. However, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whom the turtledove represented, possesses nothing unworthy of God’s holiness. What a privilege we have in Jesus!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the death of Your one and only Son, Jesus. May it never be meaningless in my life. Amen.
