Numbers 3:38 NLT
“The area in front of the Tabernacle, in the east toward the sunrise, was reserved for the tents of Moses and of Aaron and his sons, who had the final responsibility for the sanctuary on behalf of the people of Israel. Anyone other than a priest or Levite who went too near the sanctuary was to be put to death.”

The east side
When the Lord, through Moses, began the careful assignment of the children of Levi to various sides of the Tabernacle, one might wonder how such a plan could ensure complete coverage with only three sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. The scripture does not elaborate on this point, yet it invites contemplation—how would God orchestrate their distribution to prevent any side from being left unattended? This scenario serves as a reminder that human understanding is limited when it comes to comprehending the vastness of God’s divine plan and purpose.

Additionally, an important lesson emerges from the orientation of the Tabernacle itself. According to the Lord’s commands in Exodus 27:13, the entrance of the Tabernacle faced east, toward the rising sun. This placement should not be misconstrued as tacit approval of sun worship, a common practice among pagan cultures of that time. Instead, it represents a deliberate rejection of such idolatry, emphasizing a focus on the one true God who transcends the created universe.

As you reflect on your own life, consider this crucial question: Are your daily practices and spiritual inclinations genuinely honouring to God, or do they unwittingly align with pagan traditions? It is essential to continually examine our actions and beliefs to ensure they are in alignment with God’s will.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I earnestly pray that my approach to worship will always be rooted in sincerity and truth, never influenced by assumptions or fleeting emotions or traditions of men. May my expressions of reverence be guided solely by Your Word and the principles You have established, rather than by what merely seems appropriate or acceptable in the eyes of the world. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
