Numbers 3:4 NLT
“But Nadab and Abihu died in the Lord’s presence in the wilderness of Sinai when they burned before the Lord the wrong kind of fire, different than he had commanded. Since they had no sons, this left only Eleazar and Ithamar to serve as priests with their father, Aaron.”
Offer the right kind of fire
It is commendable to maintain one’s body in a state of purity. However, true beauty lies in achieving purity that transcends mere outward appearances and resonates deeply within. The case of Nadab and Abihu, who died without leaving behind sons, raises intriguing questions; the scripture indicates that they were not married, which could suggest they remained virgins at the time of their deaths. This highlights a critical point: despite being physically unblemished, their minds—the core of their decision-making and moral compass—were tainted with corruption.
Friends, it is essential to remember that focusing solely on outward expressions of holiness can be misleading. Instead, we must devote our efforts to nurturing the inner self. Regularly renewing and transforming your mind is crucial, as God judges not by external appearances but by the sincerity of our hearts and the integrity of our thoughts. No matter how pristine one’s outward expressions may seem, it is the intentions and actions that arise from within that ultimately define our true spiritual condition. Therefore, let us strive for a holistic holiness that encompasses both our inner thoughts and outer behaviours, ensuring that they align in harmony with God’s will.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, as I navigate my spiritual journey with You, I earnestly seek Your guidance and support. I am deeply aware of the importance of approaching You with sincerity and reverence, and I ask for Your strength to ensure that I never offer You anything less than my best—no strange fire or insincere service. Help me to stay rooted in truth and grace, so that my offerings may always be pleasing in Your sight. In Jesus’s name, I pray, Amen.
