Numbers 1:15 NLT
“Tribe of Naphtali – Ahira son of Enan”
What counts?
We find ourselves in an era where it is increasingly common for individuals to change their last names, driven by the belief that a name can impede personal and professional advancement. We often reference the transformative examples of Abraham and Sarah, yet we tend to overlook that their last names remained unaltered, and God instigated their profound change. Additionally, we frequently forget that even in a state of chaos and desolation, God chose not to rename the earth.
If it is names, rather than the transformative power of regenerated lives through Jesus Christ, that truly dictate one’s progress, then one might argue that the leader selected from the tribe of Naphtali should have faced insurmountable obstacles. This is particularly striking when the name Ahira translates to “brother of evil.” Nevertheless, he was chosen as a leader, without altering his name or that of his father, Enan, whose name means “having fountains” or “having eyes.”
Friends, if you have embraced Christ, you have stepped into a realm where old things have faded away, and a magnificent renewal has begun. Embrace the truth that past names or labels do not bind your identity in Him.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me recognize that having You in my life is all that matters for my life to progress in a way that brings glory to You. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
