Leviticus 25:37 NLT
“Remember, do not charge interest on money you lend him or make a profit on food you sell him.”

Act with compassion and integrity
In the preceding verse, the Lord explicitly commands that affluent Israelites must not impose interest on loans extended to those facing financial hardship. Notably, this essential instruction is reiterated in the opening part of the referenced scripture, underscoring its importance in the eyes of God. This command can easily be overlooked in our busy lives, yet the Lord intentionally uses the word “remember” to highlight its crucial role as a non-negotiable principle of conduct.

The Lord also emphasized that profit should not be considered when dealing with impoverished people in transactions involving food. This instruction was explicitly directed at the people of Israel, reminding them of their responsibility toward one another. The quality of life for those living in poverty is often directly influenced by the choices and actions of more privileged individuals.

Friends, let us commit ourselves to act with compassion and integrity whenever it is within our means to help. Together, we can strive to uplift those in need and positively impact their lives.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I earnestly pray that Your word will find a permanent residence in my heart, guiding my actions so that I will always heed Your instructions and never let them fade from my memory, in Jesus’s name. Amen.
