Leviticus 25:25 NLT
“If one of your fellow Israelites falls into poverty and is forced to sell some family land, then a close relative should buy it back for him.”

Are you a relative or a close relative?
In today’s referenced scripture, the Lord imparts a fundamental instruction regarding the principle of redemption: if a family member falls into poverty and is compelled to sell their land—part of their divine inheritance—a close relative is designated to repurchase that land. But who qualifies as a “close relative”? While it may seem straightforward, the true essence of kinship is often tested by the practice of selflessness. Individuals who would typically identify as close relatives may find that their roles shift when faced with the demands of sacrifice and generosity.

This concept parallels the call that the Lord extended to the people of Israel, urging them to cultivate selfless relationships among themselves. Similarly, we are all invited to embrace this model in our own lives. In 1 Peter 4:10, the scripture articulates, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” This verse not only emphasizes the importance of recognizing our unique talents but also reinforces our responsibility to utilize those gifts for the benefit of others, fostering a community rooted in love and service. In doing so, we embody the selflessness that the Lord desires, transforming our relationships and enriching the lives of those around us.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, please strengthen me so that I will be selfless in the disposition of my role. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
