Leviticus 25:17 NLT
“Show your fear of God by not taking advantage of each other. I am the Lord your God.”
Show your fear of God
In today’s referenced scripture, God conveyed a message to the people of Israel through His instructions to Moses, emphasizing that genuine faith is more than mere words; it demands action. He asserted that He does not want them to “talk the talk” but rather to “walk the talk.” This means that their reverence for God should be evident in their behaviour, particularly in their interactions with one another.
God instructed that the people of Israel should not only profess their fear of Him but must actively demonstrate it in their daily lives. This demonstration takes the form of integrity and fairness, particularly in business dealings. Rather than focusing on external ritualistic practices or sacrificial offerings, God urged His people to prioritize ethical behaviour and respect for others.
It’s noteworthy that while God did not prohibit the idea of making a profit in business, He insisted that such profits should not be obtained through deceit, manipulation, or exploitation. The emphasis was on maintaining honesty and transparency, ensuring all transactions were fair and just. This principle serves as a reminder that true worship stems from how we treat one another, and our faith is validated by our actions.
So, friends, reflect on this message: do you genuinely fear God? How does that fear translate into your everyday choices and interactions with others? Are you walking the talk in your life?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me remember that fearing God involves treating my neighbour with kindness and respect. It means refraining from exploiting or taking advantage of them in any situation, whether in business, personal relationships, or community interactions. I want to be guided by the Holy Spirit to act justly and compassionately, ensuring that my actions reflect a genuine love for others and align with moral integrity. Help me, Lord Jesus, Amen.
