Leviticus 25:13 NLT
“In the Year of Jubilee each of you may return to the land that belonged to your ancestors.”

Never a matter of coercion
Many people have misconceptions about God’s nature. Some believe that God is an authoritarian figure eager to impose His will on everyone without exception. However, the scripture referenced today and many others challenge this view.

Take, for example, the Year of Jubilee, when debts were forgiven and lands were returned to their original owners. While God established this sacred year as a time of release and restoration for the Israelites, it was ultimately up to the people to embrace this divine plan. The scripture indicates that “they may” return to their ancestral lands, highlighting the element of choice granted to them. The word “may” reinforces that God does not dictate actions but lays out opportunities for His people. It was never a matter of coercion; God provided the chance, but the responsibility lay with the Israelites to make that choice.

Friends, it’s essential to understand that while God possesses infinite wisdom and knows what is best for each of us, He will not force us into compliance. The blessings and opportunities He presents are gifts that require our willingness to accept and value them. Our journey of faith involves recognizing and responding to these opportunities rather than being pressured into following a prescribed path.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You with a heart full of gratitude for the immeasurable blessings I receive through the finished work of salvation that Jesus accomplished on the cross at Calvary. Thank You for the gift of grace that redeems and restores me, for the forgiveness of my sins that brings me peace, and for the promise of eternal life that fills my soul with hope. I pray that I will cherish these profound gifts and embrace them with joy and reverence daily, allowing them to guide my thoughts, actions, and relationships. May I always reflect Your love in the world around me, living as a testament to the transformative power of Your salvation. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
