Leviticus 24:17 NLT
“Anyone who takes another person’s life must be put to death.”
Sanctity of all lives
God is not just for some people; He is for all. If it were the opposite, the instruction in the referenced scripture would be skewed in favour of the native-born Israelites or a section of the entire community. The fact that the Lord used the word “anyone” implies no sacred cows. The tone of the Lord’s command implies blanket protection for the entire community, not just a select few.
More importantly, why did the Lord emphasize the sanctity of human lives again after explicitly stating it in the Ten Commandments? The hearts of men can be wicked, and many cannot resolve conflicts peacefully, often resorting to violence. Through this instruction, the Lord communicates to the people of Israel and us today that every life is significant in His eyes. Regardless of someone’s actions or the harm they may have caused, the Lord clearly states that plotting or committing murder is not an acceptable solution.
Those who choose to disregard this teaching will ultimately bear the consequences themselves. If you value your life, you must also value the lives of others. Do not take another person’s life, whether literally or through malicious misrepresentation, because the repercussions of such actions can lead to death.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I humbly ask that, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I refrain from participating in any actions or activities—whether hidden or apparent—that may cause harm or lead to the loss of life. Please help me to seek paths that promote peace, compassion, and understanding, ensuring that my choices reflect a commitment to the sanctity of all life. In Jesus’s name, Amen
