Leviticus 23:33 NLT
“And the Lord said to Moses,”
Remain receptive to the Lord’s voice
How do you feel when someone calls your name repeatedly while you are standing in their presence? Consider a scenario where your son, daughter, or spouse incessantly says your name in conversations with you. In such moments, you might find yourself wishing they would express what’s on their mind rather than interjecting your name at every turn. This behaviour can be perplexing, but have you ever paused to ponder why this happens? The truth is that when people use your name frequently in good conversations, it often signifies a deep respect and admiration for you. They see you as necessary, and mentioning your name reaffirms that bond.
An intriguing aspect of the referenced scripture is that there are four other instances in Leviticus 23 where the phrase “the Lord said to Moses” appears. This repetition of God’s communication to Moses is intriguing, mainly because it precedes the detailed instructions regarding the various festivals that the people of Israel were commanded to observe annually. The significance of the statement “the Lord said to Moses” carries weight because it emphasizes that these directives were not merely the product of Moses’s imagination or personal discretion. The community recognized the divine authority behind the instructions, ensuring the festivals were taken seriously and observed faithfully. Friends, having divine authority concerning whatever you are doing is essential.
Moreover, it’s noteworthy that Moses’ integrity played a vital role in this process. He safeguarded the sanctity of these divine instructions, ensuring they were presented without alteration to suit the whims of different groups or ‘constituencies’ within the Israelite community. Moses did not have hidden agendas or ulterior motives; his sole focus was on fulfilling the will of God. This unwavering commitment to genuine leadership fostered trust and acceptance among the people, creating a lasting legacy that would be respected and adhered to for generations.
Prayer
