Leviticus 23:12 NLT
“On that same day, you must sacrifice a one-year-old male lamb with no defects as a burnt offering to the Lord.”
No defects
Regarding the festival of first fruits, specific requirements must be met with precision and timeliness. The Lord specified that the priest must complete another task on the day he offers a bundle of grain. I AM WHO I AM requested that the priest also present a lamb.
As for the lamb, the Lord stipulated that it must be a one-year-old male and, more importantly, without defects. We should regard it as our duty to honour God with our offerings, ensuring that what we give is without blemish. The Bible teaches that God loves a cheerful giver—one who gives freely and not out of compulsion. When we recognize God in our giving, it’s important to understand that our hearts must also give willingly. A heart that gives out of obligation or routine might miss the true essence of the act.
Moreover, we need to follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our giving rather than copying what others do or how they seem to give. Without a doubt, the instructions were clear: a one-year-old male lamb was required. If the Israelites chose to offer a five-year-old lamb, no matter how impressive it appeared, they would have failed to give cheerfully, which would not have been acceptable to God.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me continually please you in my offerings. Also, teach me the right and acceptable ways to honour you in Jesus’s name. Amen.
