Leviticus 23:11 NLT
“On the day after the Sabbath, the priest will lift it up before the Lord so it may be accepted on your behalf.”
No show-off
In the above scripture, the Lord instructed Moses on how the people of Israel should present a bundle of grain brought for the festival of first fruits. This divine guidance was essential for the Israelites, underscoring the importance of honouring God and placing Him at the forefront of their lives. As articulated in Romans 11:36, everything we possess originates from God and ultimately returns to Him. Therefore, we must revere Him with all we have, acknowledging His sovereignty over our lives.
So, how do we go about honouring God in our day-to-day actions? To gain insight, we can examine the specific requirements that God set for the people of Israel regarding the festival of first fruits. One of the primary stipulations involved presenting a bundle of grain during the festival of first fruits, which was to be done by the priest following the Sabbath. Notably, this process did not necessitate the physical presence of any member of the House of Israel. This aspect highlights a fundamental principle: God desired the Israelites to demonstrate trust in their priest, to assume that he would dutifully fulfill his obligations even in their absence. While no man fulfills the expectation, Jesus, our High Priest, did it.
Furthermore, it’s important to point out that lifting the grain bundle was the only requirement for it to be accepted by God. The priest was not obliged to recite certain statements; lifting the bundle in compliance with God’s instructions was sufficient for its acceptance during the festival. This simplicity underscores a profound truth: obeying God does not require grand gestures or public displays. In fact, it is in quiet and humble acts of obedience—those performed out of sight or without the expectation of recognition—that the Lord finds genuine delight. This is a powerful reminder that true devotion can often be found in our private moments, free from the scrutiny of others. When we act according to God’s will, whether in the presence of others or solitude, we can find assurance in the knowledge that God sees our hearts and rewards our faithfulness.

Heavenly Father, I seek the strength to place my trust in You, even when I feel completely blindsided by the events unfolding in my life. Please help me obey and not add to the ask when it seems simple. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
