Leviticus 23:9 NLT
“Then the Lord said to Moses,”
My Lord says
Several years ago, a cliché circulated among segments of the Nigerian Christian community. Many people frequently punctuated their conversations on faith and life with phrases like, “My pastor said,” suggesting a reliance on human authority for spiritual guidance. This begs the question: Which source of guidance do you genuinely hold in high regard? Is it the infallible word of God, the timeless truth that instills faith and hope, or the fallible words articulated by individuals, which can often spiral into doubt and fear?
On the other hand, Moses exemplified unwavering trust in the word of the Lord (Deuteronomy 8:3). Therefore, if he were to walk among us today, he would undoubtedly assert, “My Lord said,” as a testament to his profound and intimate relationship with God. His declaration would reflect a deep understanding and personal experience of divine communication that goes far beyond the superficialities of religious rhetoric.
By nurturing a relationship grounded in divine truth, believers can chart a clear path through the complexities of life. This relationship shields them from the confusion and chaos of relying solely on human opinions. Instead, they are empowered to navigate their journeys confidently, anchored by the unwavering truths of Scripture, which guide them in love, direction, and hope. Such a foundation fosters resilience and clarity, allowing believers to stand firm in their faith regardless of external circumstances.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me to consistently rely on Your Word as my ultimate source of truth. In every situation I face, may I always seek to make decisions based on what You teach me through the Scriptures rather than solely on the opinions of others, including my pastor. Let my heart and mind be aligned with Your will so that I may honour You through my choices. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
