Leviticus 20:10 NLT
’If a man commits adultery with his neighbour’s wife, both the man and the woman who have committed adultery must be put to death.
Be godly and contented
In Exodus 20, God gave the people of Israel the Ten Commandments through Moses, and one of them centers on avoiding adultery. In today’s referenced scripture, the Lord spelled out the consequence of disregarding the instruction against adultery. The Lord says coveting your neighbour’s wife is punishable by death. This goes beyond the physical intimacy between the man and woman and extends to other areas of a person’s life, like emotional entanglements. There is a need to draw a solid boundary when associating with another’s husband or wife, as emotional intimacy could have lasting effects on all involved.
The Bible says we should flee from all appearances of evil in 1 Thessalonians 5:22. This includes all forms of temptations that could be misleading in their beginning stages. Also, the life of a Christian should be a contented one. A man or woman having decided to cleave together in marriage with another should not covet that which does not belong to him or her. This goes without saying that there are all forms of adultery, especially in the times we live in now. We should work towards finding contentment in the life we have chosen for ourselves.
