Leviticus 19:21 NLT
“The man, however, must bring a ram as a guilt offering and present it to the Lord at the entrance of the Tabernacle.”
God does not need a dash camera
In today’s North American society, it has become increasingly common for drivers to install both front and rear dash cameras in their vehicles. This growing trend can be attributed to the rising challenge of determining fault in auto accidents. The prevalent use of dash cameras reflects the recognition of human fallibility, as the saying goes, “to err is human,” and the need for concrete evidence in evaluating such incidents.
Contrary to human limitations, the divine perspective differs significantly. In Leviticus 19:20, God’s omniscience is highlighted as it is made clear that he does not require visual evidence, such as a dash or CCTV camera, to ascertain fault. The scripture addresses a scenario where a man, likely a native, engages in an amoral relationship with a slave girl. God’s command, in this case, mandates the man to present a ram as a guilt offering. The term “must” underscores man’s obligation to comply with God’s directive to attain forgiveness. Failure to procure the ram would result in his continued guilt.
This stipulation demonstrates the significant consequence of transgression and potentially functions as a deterrent for others. While the forgiveness of our sins has been secured through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, it is essential not to misconstrue this grace as a license for ongoing wrongdoing. Instead, we are urged to live our lives in a manner that acknowledges the profound cost of salvation, which was ultimately paid for by the blood of Christ.
