“Do not permit any of your children to be offered as a sacrifice to Molech, for you must not bring shame on the name of the Lord.”
Do not bring shame
Today’s scripture emphasizes that parents are responsible for safeguarding and nurturing their children and must never misuse or abuse this crucial role. The passage highlights the disturbing actions of the inhabitants of Canaan, who allowed appalling mistreatment of their children, forgetting that children are the heritage from the Lord.
In contrast, the Lord warned the people of Israel against engaging in any form of heinous treatment towards their children. The Lord’s instruction applies universally, without distinction based on gender or birth order. All children are regarded equally by the Lord.
The overarching lesson is that any action jeopardizing a child’s well-being dishonours God, and those who engage in such acts will not receive His favour. As followers of Christ, we are reminded to reject the enticements of the worldly lifestyle and unwaveringly uphold our commitment to holy living.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I pray that I will not misuse my role as a parent. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
