Leviticus 17:12 NLT
“That is why I have said to the people of Israel, ‘You must never eat or drink blood—neither you nor the foreigners living among you.’”
“I have said”
It is essential to underline that the prohibition against consuming blood, for both the people of Israel and the foreigners living among them, was not a decision made by Moses but rather an instruction from God. Ensuring that any instructions you follow are of divine origin is crucial. Unlike rules humans impose, divine instructions are always for one’s benefit. Another critical point is that the Lord did not forbid all nations from consuming blood, but only those under His protection. If you are one of His followers, behaving accordingly by following His instructions is essential.
Additionally, it is essential to believe that the instruction in today’s referenced scripture had been given before. If it were the first time, perhaps the Lord would have said, “That is why I am saying,” but instead, He said, “That is why I have said.” The repetition of the instruction suggests that God will continue to send His message because of His love for us. The question then becomes: Do we love Him enough to follow His instructions? Just as the Lord did not want anyone to disregard the importance of animal blood, it is up to us not to take the blood of Christ for granted, as it represents something far greater than any other blood, including Abel’s blood, which cried out for vengeance.
Prayer
Living God, I pray I will not forget all Your instructions but put everything to heart. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
