Leviticus 16:27 NLT
“The bull and the goat presented as sin offerings, whose blood Aaron takes into the Most Holy Place for the purification ceremony, will be carried outside the camp. The animals’ hides, internal organs, and dung are all to be burned.”
God’s way
Fire serves dual purposes, acting as both a purifying force and a consuming element. In the scripture, when fire consumes, it can be sacrificial or non-sacrificial. In the case of Elijah’s offering, the heavenly fire consumed everything on the altar, signifying the acceptance of the sacrifice. However, the fire mentioned in today’s referenced scripture originated from man. Although it consumed the hides of the bull and goat used for the sin offering, it wasn’t a sacrificial act. It’s evident that fire plays a significant role, but its mere presence does not necessarily imply divine origins. Therefore, it is imperative to be specific about the kind of fire we desire in our lives and church.
Another message is that certain things, no matter how good in the eyes of men, are not fit for God’s presence. If man were to decide what should happen to the animals’ byproducts, only the dung would be discarded, while the animals’ hides and internal organs would become delicacies. As good as it sounded, that was not God’s way. God’s way was that the animals’ hides, internal organs, and dung be consumed by fire, and it was followed wholeheartedly. Friends, whenever man’s perspective clashes with God’s, we must always defer to God’s way because it is in following it that we can experience peace that surpasses human understanding.
