Leviticus 16:21 NLT
“He will lay both of his hands on the goat’s head and confess over it all the wickedness, rebellion, and sins of the people of Israel. In this way, he will transfer the people’s sins to the head of the goat. Then a man specially chosen for the task will drive the goat into the wilderness.”
Confess all to the Lord
It is not uncommon for us to distance ourselves from tasks that do not explicitly mention our names. In our defence, we might say that our name is not “he” or “she.” In the referenced scripture, the performer’s name was not explicitly mentioned; however, there is no doubt about the person’s identity that the Lord wanted to perform the task. Aaron knew it was he who was to perform the stipulated tasks. You and I know when a task is ours, so let’s accept and assume our responsibilities.
Furthermore, the Lord required that Aaron confess all the sins committed by the people of Israel. But how could Aaron know all the sins committed by the people of Israel? Do not forget that in the Old Testament, no one confessed a sin secretly to God. Whoever sinned had to perform a sacrifice, which would then reveal whatever they had done wrong. Through God’s grace in Jesus Christ, we can now directly confess our sins to God (1 John 1:9). So, whatever wrong you have done, confess to Him, for He would never make fun of you, think less of you, or drive you away (John 6:37).
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for the redemptive grace I have in Christ Jesus. Please help me not to take it for granted. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
