Leviticus 16:18 NLT
“Then Aaron will come out to purify the altar that stands before the Lord. He will do this by taking some of the blood from the bull and the goat and putting it on each of the horns of the altar.”

Even the altar
Today’s referenced scripture highlights the additional responsibilities the Lord requested Aaron to perform. It entered on purifying the altar that stood before the Lord in the Tabernacle. The instructions for this purification process were explicit, emphasizing that it could only occur after the purification of the Holy of Holies. Also, the altar’s purification involved blood, specifically the blood of a bull and a goat. Without this crucial component, the entire exercise would be futile.

The lesson from this passage revolves around the significance of the altar and Aaron’s specific duties concerning it. Even though the altar of incense stood in the presence of the Lord day and night, it was not automatically purified. As followers of Christ, this serves as a reminder that working for the Lord does not necessarily make one purified. Just as the services of the altar of incense did not make it right, likewise, no service can make you right with God except the blood of the Lamb.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for revealing that my services in Your presence cannot make me right with You. However, the blood of the Lamb possesses everything. Please help me to always depend on the finished work of salvation. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
