Numbers 3:31 NLT
“These four clans were responsible for the care of the Ark, the table, the lampstand, the altars, the various articles used in the sanctuary, the inner curtain, and all the equipment related to their use.”
Collaboratively not competitively
In the referenced scripture, the Lord, through Moses, outlined the specific tasks for which the Kohathites were responsible. What is particularly noteworthy is that none of these responsibilities conflicted with the duties assigned to other clans, such as the Gershonites and Merarites. The Kohathites’ assignments, which included caring for the Ark of the Covenant, the table of showbread, the lampstand, the altars, and all associated articles used in the sanctuary, were designed to complement the tasks of their counterparts, thereby maintaining a harmonious operation within the tabernacle. This synergy underscores God’s nature, demonstrating how The I AM WHO I AM orchestrates divine duties in a manner that prevents disorder and confusion.
Another significant aspect is the consistency of these tasks over time. The Kohathites were instructed to perform their duties in a designated area—the sanctuary, specifically revolving around the Ark and its sacred items. This structure implies a divine intention for order and stability in worship practices. Interestingly, the scripture does not indicate that the Kohathites ever developed a sense of entitlement or contempt for their sacred responsibilities, despite their frequent interaction with holy items. They understood their role and limitations, never substituting for Aaron and his sons in performing priestly duties, such as conducting sacrifices on the altar of burnt offering or burning incense on the altar of incense.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please grant me the wisdom to understand my role fully, so that I do not undermine the leadership of others. Please help me to respect the authority of those in charge and to contribute positively, ensuring that I work collaboratively rather than competitively. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
