Numbers 2:34 NLT
“So the people of Israel did everything as the Lord had commanded Moses. Each clan and family set up camp and marched under their banners exactly as the Lord had instructed them.”
‭‭
Exactly as the Lord has instructed them
Today’s referenced scripture provides a retrospective look at the people of Israel, highlighting that they marched under their banners with intentionality and purpose. It’s important to note that they did not continue to perform this instruction once they reached the Promised Land. The Lord did not require it, even though it might have seemed logical to do so from a human perspective.

As we navigate our journeys, we must understand that some instructions are time-bound and location-specific. Therefore, the guidance of the Holy Spirit is needed to prevent unnecessary repetition. For example, the disciples of Christ waited in Jerusalem only until they received the gift of the Holy Spirit, after which they dispersed to share the good news. There is no record of them converging in the upper room on another day of Pentecost for the same purpose.

Another insight to consider is whether there is consistency in your past and present attitude towards the Lord’s instructions. Friends, can the Lord confirm that your commitment to doing His will remains strong as in the past, or has the passage of time led you to stray from following God’s instructions as diligently as you once did?

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I pray that the comfort of respite will not remove “exactly” from how I attend to Your instructions. I pray that my obedience to Your word today and in the future will be complete. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.
