Numbers 2:3-4 NIV
“On the east, toward the sunrise, the divisions of the camp of Judah are to encamp under their standard. The leader of the people of Judah is Nahshon son of Amminadab. His division numbers 74,600.”
Positioning is God’s responsibility
In human society, our judgments often reflect age and socio-economic status, leading to a hierarchy where the oldest or the wealthiest receive preferential treatment. This dynamic, however, starkly contrasts with divine principles. Take, for instance, the biblical context—if societal norms were applied, Reuben, being the firstborn son of Jacob, would naturally assume a position of prominence among the tribes of Israel. Surprisingly, it was Judah who was chosen by God to lead the tribes on the east side of the Tabernacle, not because of Judah’s inherent strength or superior qualities, but purely as an expression of God’s mercy and divine will.
This illustrates a profound truth: God has the ultimate authority to elevate anyone, regardless of background or status, to leadership positions. Yet, with such elevation comes a critical responsibility. If you find yourself in a place of honour or leadership, it is essential to remain grounded and humble. Resist the temptation to let your position inflate your ego. Instead, recognize that your leadership is not a testament to your abilities but a manifestation of God’s grace. Always attribute your successes and opportunities to His mercy, and carry out your role with humility and gratitude.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me to remain grounded and remember that any achievements or elevation in my life are gifts from You, and may I never let pride take hold of my heart. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
